Asturian pre-Romanesque Art: UNESCO World Heritage

It is considered to be the most complete and homogeneous ensemble of late medieval architecture in Western Europe, geographically concentrated and exceptionally well preserved in its original state, works dated between the 8th and 10th centuries:

We highly recommned to visit, among others: Santa Maria del Naranco, san Miguel del Lillo and San Julián de los Prados in Oviedo, Santa Cristina de Lena (our favourite one, in the photo!) and Valdediós in Villaviciosa.

Casonas de Indianos and rural heritage.

Asturias was poor and during XIX century lot of people and peasants emigrated to America looking for better fortune. «Casonas de Indianos» are houses built by these returning emigrants who had made their fortune in the Americas or «Indies», Modernist and eclecticism style mansions and villas. The «Indiano Archives-Emigration Museum Foundation», located in the quaint village of Colombres, houses the most complete history of Asturian emigration, and it’s perfect to beguin a trip looking for theese curious villas.

On the other hand to understand better the traditional rural daily life and work, customs, peasant architecture, rituals, nothing better than visit The Pueblo de Asturias Folk Museum in Gijón and have a walk with us in the surroundings of PACA!
